Q: I do not know anything about counseling.  How does it work? What is it like?

A:  Counseling is unique to each therapist and client. However, at The Forging Place, we consistently set goals and work towards them with you. After scheduling an appointment, you will receive a text or email notification to remind you of your appointment. At your first session please arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out paperwork.  You will find your paperwork in the lobby. Your therapist will come and get you in the lobby and take you to a private office. He or she will collect a copay or fee at that time and the session will begin. Sessions are 50 minutes where you will be alone with your counselor to sort through issues as you wish. No topic is off limits and no topic will be forced by the counselor.

Q: What populations can be seen at The Forging Place?

A: We see individuals, couples, families, and children. We have therapists who specialize and are gifted in working with certain populations and we make every effort to pair the appropriate therapist with each client. We are fully staffed and do not turn away anyone because of their need.

Q: How can I be sure that what we discuss will be kept private?

A: Counselors are bound to the same HIPAA laws that all medical offices abide. We also have strict ethical codes (https://www.counseling.org/resources/aca-code-of-ethics.pdf) which prohibit any type of information being shared without your written consent.  The fact that you are even a client is kept confidential. We take confidentiality very seriously and strive to take every measure to ensure that your information and story stay private.

Q: How often do I come to counseling?

A: That is primarily up to you and can be discussed with your counselor.

Q: Is counseling expensive?

A: We carry several insurances. Different insurance plans determine what your payment will be. We encourage you to contact your insurance company for an accurate coverage disclosure for you prior to your appointment. We have a non-insurance rate that varies between therapists. We also have graduate student interns who see clients $25 a session.

Q: What if I don’t have insurance?

A: Our main goal is to walk beside you and help you through this.  We will try our very best to make it affordable for you.

Q:  Are you open on weekends or late in the weekday?

A:  We work by appointment but are very flexible.  We understand that some people need after work appointments.  Occasionally, as need arises, we will offer Saturday appointments.

Q: I am embarrassed and I don’t even know where to begin. What do I need to do?

A:  All you need to do is call, we will take it from there.
